  5. One of the problems that effects some DESQview users that do not have a 
  6. mouse, is that they may occasionally, inadvertently activate the DESQview 
  7. Keyboard Mouse.  The Keyboard Mouse is activated when you tap the Control 
  8. key all by itself.  When this happens, you get a beep and a diamond 
  9. shaped cursor appears on the screen.  At this point, if you move the 
  10. cursor keys, the diamond cursor moves, and the normal cursor action for 
  11. the program you were running is disabled.  If you tap the control key 
  12. again, you get a double beep and the diamond cursor will go away and 
  13. cursor control will return to your application.

  15. This is all quite normal.  The Keyboard Mouse is provided in DESQview to 
  16. maintain IBM's "TopView" compatibility since TopView/DESQview specific 
  17. applications could require a mouse.  Since TopView defines the Control 
  18. key as the key to activate the keyboard mouse, this is the DESQview 
  19. default.

  21. However, some users who may have a tendency to activate the Keyboard 
  22. Mouse by accident may wish to make it more difficult to turn on by 
  23. accident.  The following method is favored by tech. support:
  24.  
  25. First, run the DESQview Setup Program.  Take the advanced Setup and 
  26. select "K" for keyboard.  Move down to the option that says "Change 
  27. system keys? (Y/N)" and type "Y".  This takes you to another menu for 
  28. defining the system keys.  Change the line for Keyboard Mouse as shown 
  29. below.

  36. This necessitates changing only the "Key to hold down/Shift" to "R".  
  37. After doing this, hit the Enter key and keep hitting it until you have 
  38. backed out of Setup to the DOS prompt.  Restart DESQview and in order to 
  39. activate the Keyboard Mouse, you will have to hold down the Right Shift 
  40. key and then tap the Control key.  This is difficult to do by accident.
